Turkish banks await notification on suspension of Mir system Wed

ISTANBUL, Sep 28 (PRIME) -- Turkey’s state banks are waiting for a notification from the regulator later on Wednesday on suspension of the use of Russia’s Mir payment system, a representative of Halkbank told PRIME.

“Information on the suspension has been published in the press, but our regulator has not notified us yet. It is likely to be done today and will involve all the state banks,” the person said.

Bloomberg reported earlier that Turkish state banks plan to exit the Mir payment system due to the risk of U.S. secondary sanctions.
